fame passed away on Wednesday evening. The director, who was 54-year-old, breathed his last at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, reportedly due to kidney and liver failure. Babu had worked for Vijay’s Kuruvi and
Bairavaa
, too.
Vijay Antony, who composed music for Vettaikkaran, took to Twitter to express condolences. He tweeted, “I am deeply saddened and shocked about the sudden demise of Vettaikaaran director Babu Sivan. He was a very simple man who gave me complete freedom to execute my ideas in Vettaikaaran. Condolences and strength to his family and friends.”
When Chennai Times reached out to him, the musician-turned-actor, who is currently working for Ananda Krishnan’s project, said Babu Sivan was one among the two directors he can never forget because of the complete freedom they gave to him. He said, “From what I can remember, Babu sir and Lakshmikanthan sir (of TN 07 AL 4777) were two filmmakers who had given total liberty to me to do whatever I felt was right. All the five songs in Vettaikkaran were immensely popular, and I think it’s because of the trust he had on me. He was a very soft-hearted person – he neither used to interfere in my work nor did he force me to do anything. He would describe the situation and asked me to work on it with the lyricist. Sometimes, we tend to become more dedicated when someone trusts us so much. That could be the reason behind the super success of the songs. He didn’t make any film after that and we couldn’t stay in touch either. His demise is really unexpected. I will really miss him.”
