, Vijay Sethupathi has announced his next with director SP Jananathan. Titled

Laabam

, the film will see Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan come together for the first time. Bankrolled by the actor himself, along with Arumuga Kumar, who directed Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, the subject, we hear, will be typical Jananathan-style. Says Arumuga, “It is a revolutionary subject that will have a strong message, true to Jananathan’s style of storytelling. But of course, this film will be a lot more action-packed. It is set against the backdrop of a village. And the story revolves around Sethupathi’s character, who plays a social activist.”

He elaborates, and also explains the title, “Laabam means profit... the film delves into what happens before you make profit.” Arumuga says that Shruti, too, will have an important role to play. “Her character is a bold one and is packed with lot of surprises. We felt that she would be apt for the role. Also, we wanted a fresh casting for the film,” he says.
Jagapathi Babu plays the negative role, and the film also has Kalaiyarasan in an important role. And Arumuga adds, “The film will be shot in various locations in Tamil Nadu. We have begun the first schedule in Rajapalayam.”
D Imman will be composing music for the film.
