Director
SP Jhananathan
, who has made films like
Iyarkai
and Jayam Ravi's Peraanmai, has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai after he was found lying unconscious in his house.
The director is currently making the social drama
Laabam
with
Vijay Sethupathi and
Shruti Haasan, and has been busy with post-production work related to the film.
According to a source who had spoken to producer Azhagan Tamilmani, who is close to the filmmaker, Jhananathan had been involved in editing work this morning. "He had left the editing suite and went to his home for lunch in the afternoon. But since the director, who is unmarried, hadn't turned up even after 3.30pm, his assistants had gone to his house only to find him lying unconscious in the middle of the hall. They immediately called for an ambulance and had rushed him to

Hospitals on Greams Road in Chennai, where the doctors diagnosed him and declared that he had been brought brain dead. However, a senior neurologist has been called in to check on the director and provide treatment. On hearing the news, producer Azhagan Tamilmani, who had gone out of Chennai to a temple, and his family members, have returned to the city and are at the hospital."
Jhananathan made his debut in 2003 with the romance drama Iyarkai, starring Shaam, Kutty Radhika and Arun Vijay, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He has also directed the medical thriller Jiiva's E, and the political thriller Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai, starring Arya, Vijay Sethupathi and Shaam.
