Jiiva opens up to TOI on his current projects...
Villain act was super cool: Jiiva
After much delay, Jiivas Singam Puli, in which the actor plays a dual role, is ready to hit screens. And needless to say, Jiiva is super excited. If things go according to plan, I might have two releases in the next couple of weeks Sai Ramanis Singam Puli and Ko with K V Anand, he begins.
Jiiva cant stop himself as he gets talking about Singam Puli.
1x1 polls
Weve been working on the film for quite some time now. It has a lot of CG work and hence, took time to get ready. But now, Im sure the film will do well because its a total entertainer, he says with confidence.
The actor plays a dual role for the first time in his career. Whats even more interesting is that Im the hero, villain and also the comedian in the film. Ive some really nice comic scenes with Santhanam, he smiles.
So, which role did he love playing the most? Doing the villain act was super cool. My friends told me that the audience might not like it if I play a negative role. But I think it was more challenging to play the villain than the hero, he answers.
However, the actor doesnt sport two different looks. Sai said the audience should figure out whos who from my performance and body language, and not from my appearance. Both the characters are entirely different and that can be spotted in small things like the way they walk and talk, and their attitude.
He says he got lucky with this film as he got to romance not one, but two lovely ladies in the film. One character is a playboy and loves getting cosy with women. I have some intimate scenes with Soundharya. Theres also a sensual song picturised on us. Sai and I were particular that it should be shot without any vulgarity because we didnt want the song to feature in midnight masala! he laughs and adds that the other characters romantic track with Divya Spandana is more mature.

Jiivas hands are also full at the moment with Vandhaan Vandraan (VV) and Nanban. Im currently shooting for VV in Mumbai. Before that, I was wrapping up the first schedule of Shankars Nanban in Ooty. I also have Rowthiram in the pipeline, he says.
So, how was it shooting with one of the most talented directors in K-town, Shankar? Though hes worked with actors of Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanths calibre and almost got to direct Shah Rukh Khan, Shankar is down to earth and treats everyone equally. I was extremely comfortable working with him. He has no strict rules on the sets. My rapport with him is as good as the one I share with Kannan and Rajesh. He explains the scene thoroughly and doesnt hesitate to compliment if we do a good job. He wants to make Nanban better than the original. And we are all for it, he signs off.
Mission Weight loss
Jiiva is on a mission... to reduce his weight! I have to look young like a college lad for Nanban. While the first schedule required me to look a little old, the other schedules will have me playing a college student. So, Im on a weight-losing spree right now. I make it a point to walk from the sets of VV to my hotel, which is about 5 km away. I will start a full workout schedule soon, he tells us.
