The latest one to join the list of movies that highlight the plight of
farmers
is
Vaazhga Vivasayi
. Directed by
Ponnimohan
, the film stars
Appukutty and
Vasundhara
in the lead.
“Mohan had approached me with the script and I liked the story right from the second he completed the narration. I even belong to a farmer’s family and I could easily connect with the raw emotions. In today’s time, a farmer has to fight many, many things to survive, and I felt this film would be a great way to throw light on some of these issues,” says Appukutty.
The National Award-winning actor plays a farmer in the film. “I know the various techniques of farming, like nattru nadarathu and kathir adikkarathu. So, it was easy for me. We shot the film in places like Rajapalayam, Karuppanai near Tenkasi and Srivilliputhur, and are looking to release it by October,” he says.
Tell him that it’s become a trend of sorts to talk about farmers and agriculture in movies, and he says, “But this one is different. We will be talking about an aspect that nobody has taken up before.” He quickly adds, “But the film will not be preachy. We’ve treated the script in an entertaining way.”
