Nandha
Critically acclaimed and commercially successful Nandha was the biggest break in Suriya’s career. One thing we learn after watching the film is how much his eyes speak. The movie didn’t have a lot of dialogues for Suriya, but his eyes alone did the talking. A splendid performance, the movie went on to receive several state awards and Filmfare awards too. This film marked the successful beginning of Suriya’s career.

Kaakha Kaakha
Suriya’s pairing with wife, Jyothika, was the best decision Gautham Menon took whilst making Kaakha Kaakha. The film went on to win several accolades and the onscreen pairing of Suriya and Jyothika worked wonders. This was his first film as a cop and according to reports on Livemint.com, Suriya said that it was Jyothika who recommended Suriya for the role after Ajith rejected it.

Pithamagan
Although the showman of the film, Vikram, grasped the National Award for best actor, his supporting star Suriya, went home with a Filmfare award. The story of Pithamagan revolves around Vikram, who has been brought up in a cemetery and is indifferent to emotions. He meets the silver tongued conman, Suriya, who is later killed in the movie. However, even though Vikram’s character stole the show, Suriya’s persona of a sly conman trying to fool people, brought a lot of life in the script.

Ghajini
AR Murugadoss’ critically acclaimed film Ghajini created a phenomenon! Suriya’s credentials as an actor went skyrocketing with the release of this film. Not just that, his transformation from a cute Sanjay Ramasamy to the badass Sanjay Ramasamy with a short term memory loss, who is on a killing spree was poles apart. However, the journey the film took the audience and critics through, along with the phenomenal picturisation, was worth a ride.

Perazhagan
Perazhagan has Suriya in a dual role - one of a village hunchback who is lauded for his selfless deeds and one who is a handsome violent college student in love with his classmate. In this film, we witness two extreme characterizations of Suriya. The actor did a tremendous job as both the characters.

Vaaranam Aayiram
National Award winning film, Vaaranam Aayiram, a coming-of-age film easily stands as his best film so far. With Suriya playing a dual role, again, of the father as well as the son, the movie left a big impact in the hearts of millions. This movie witnessed Suriya in several stages of his dual roles from the young 16-year-old boy to a passionate lover to a drug junkie to an army man and of course, an inspiring father who stood by the boy in all times of life. This movie compiles Suriya’s best work.

Singam
We can never get too tired of watching Suriya as a police officer. That just adds on to his swag! Singam created a big sensation with Suriya as the angry young cop who is sick and tired of corruption and wants to rid the society of the corrupt commotion. Romancing the sultry Anushka Shetty, fighting the corrupt Prakash Raj and eventually saving the city was a scintillating treat. The film’s second installment was a success as well.
