Music Review: Oyee

But for two songs, Oyee hardly sounds like an Ilaiyraaja album.
Film: Oyee
Music Director: Ilaiyaraaja

Review: After the not-so-entertaining Oru Meliya Kodu, Ilaiyaraaja scores music for the film, Oyee. The album starts with a peppy number, Eden Garden. Rendered by Ranjith, NSK Ramya and Premjith (who has recorded the rap portions), the song sounds anything but Raaja. The tune is outdated and unpleasant to the ears. The lyrics by Vivega and Premjith (rap) are quite juvenile, too. Mudinja Oru Kai Paru by Prasanna and Anitha is more like a girl-boy conversation through a song. The tune is quite weird as it tries to mix too many genres. Enthaa Ooru Ponalum by Santhosh Hariharan and Reeta is a folk number. The song starts with a beautiful nadaswaram solo and for the first time, the album sounds more like Raaja's. The earthy interludes add magic touch to the delightful tune and the singers pitch in with the right emotion for the song. Mannin Magane is yet another outdated tune that even dependable singers like Rahul Nambiar, Prasanna and Ranjith can't salvage. Thendral Varum Vazhiyil by Karthik and Priya Himesh is a likeable melody. The singers, the pleasant pauses in the tune and lyrics add punch to the song. But for two songs, Oyee hardly sounds like an Ilaiyraaja album and is a definite disappointment for his fans.
