Back when
Hansika Motwani was gearing up for the release of ‘Bogan’, the actress candidly spoke about her career choices and why she was in no hurry to move towards women-centric cinema. At the time, Hansika was among the busiest commercial actresses in the South film industry and was enjoying the space she had carved for herself.
While promoting the action entertainer alongside
Ravi Mohan and
Arvind Swamy, the actress opened up about embracing mainstream commercial films and waiting for the right time to experiment with stronger female-led narratives. In an old interaction with IANS, Hansika explained that she did not want to take up female-centric films merely for the sake of it. According to her, such projects demanded greater maturity and experience as an actor.
“I'm happy with my commercial heroine tag. In Tamil filmdom, I'm just five years old and I feel I need more experience and maturity to pull off women-centric scripts,” she had said. The actress also made it clear that she would eventually explore those kinds of stories once she felt creatively prepared. “When the time is right, I will do female-centric films,” Hansika added.
Hansika Motwani on her role in ‘Bogan’
Directed by Lakshman, ‘Bogan’ featured Ravi Mohan and Arvind Swamy in lead roles, while Hansika played a significant character connected closely to the emotional core of the story.
Speaking about the film during promotions, she had shared, “I play the hero's driving force and the story revolves around my character. It's a unique love story and everyone can easily relate to my character.” The film blended action, romance and fantasy elements, eventually becoming one of the most talked-about Tamil releases at the time.
Reuniting With Ravi Mohan felt special
‘Bogan’ marked Hansika’s third collaboration with Ravi Mohan, and the actress had described the experience as a happy reunion with a familiar team. “It's my third film with Ravi, second with director Lakshman and fourth with cinematographer Soundarajan,” she had said. Recalling the atmosphere on set, Hansika added, “We had so much fun shooting every single day and there was never a dull moment. It really felt special to work with all of them again. It was a wonderful reunion.”
Hansika Motwani’s praise for Arvind Swamy
Apart from Ravi Mohan, Hansika had also spoken warmly about sharing screen space with Arvind Swamy in the film. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, she reportedly praised the senior actor for being extremely supportive and professional both on and off screen. The actress had expressed excitement about working alongside an experienced performer like him and appreciated the comfort he brought to the sets.
About ‘Bogan’
Released as an action-packed entertainer, ‘Bogan’ combined comedy, romance and thriller elements. The film was widely discussed for the chemistry between Ravi Mohan and Arvind Swamy, whose onscreen dynamic became one of the highlights of the movie. Interestingly, the project was often compared to Nicolas Cage and John Travolta’s Hollywood film ‘Face/Off’, though ‘Bogan’ presented its own commercial spin on the concept.
