'Agent' box office collection Day 2: Akhil Akkineni's film earns a paltry Rs 2.60 crore
Considering the fact that Agent has been made on a budget of nearly Rs 80 crore, these numbers are certainly disappointing for the filmmakers and producers. It remains to be seen whether the movie can pick up steam in the coming days, but the signs are not encouraging so far.
Directed by Surender Reddy, 'Agent' tells the story of a RAW agent who is tasked with uncovering a conspiracy involving a deadly virus that could potentially threaten the entire world. The movie stars Akhil Akkineni in the lead role, along with Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, and Vikramjeet Virk.
The film has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. While some have praised Akhil's performance and the film's action sequences, others have criticized the movie's weak storyline and lack of character development. The cinematography by Rasool Ellore, editing by Naveen Nooli, and music by Hiphop Tamizha have all been praised by critics, but unfortunately, it seems that these technical aspects of the movie have not been enough to win over audiences.
It is clear that Agent has had a disappointing start at the box office. While there is still a chance for the movie to turn things around, the early signs are not encouraging. Nonetheless, the film's makers will undoubtedly be hoping for a strong showing in the coming days to recoup some of the massive investment they have made in the project.
The Telugu film industry witnessed the release of "Agent" on 28 April 2023, starring Akhil Akkineni, Sakshi Vaidya, Mammootty, Dino Morea, Vikramjeet Virk, and Urvashi Rautela in a special appearance. The film was directed by Surender Reddy and had a budget of 70-80 crores, with a pre-release business of 42 crores. However, the film opened on a disastrous note, grossing an estimated Rs 7 crores worldwide on the first day. On that note, we will discuss why "Agent" fell short of expectations.

One of the primary reasons for "Agent's" failure was its weak plot and characterization. The villain's reasons for turning rogue were not solid enough, making it hard for the audience to relate to him. The protagonist's characterisation and antics were also irritating, leaving the viewers uninterested in his journey. Akhil Akkineni's character was a mess, and his portrayal was cringe-worthy. This resulted in a film with the weakest storyline that failed to engage the audience.

Director Surender Reddy is known for his action-packed thrillers, but "Agent" was a big misfire on his part. The first half of the movie was below average, while the second half was just plain bad. The director failed to execute the plot and characterisation, resulting in a movie that lacked coherence and direction.

Another reason why "Agent" fell short of expectations was the music and cinematography. The background score and songs were a big minus, failing to complement the movie's action-packed sequences. The cinematography was also subpar, failing to capture the essence of the plot and characters.

The film's cast and performances were also subpar, failing to leave a mark on the audience. Debutant Sakshi Vaidya played the leading lady, but her performance was forgettable. Mammootty, who played RAW Chief Colonel Mahadev, failed to leave an impact. Dino Morea, who played "The God," also failed to impress. Vikramjeet Virk, who played Deva, was the only saving grace in terms of performances. The rest of the cast, including Denzil Smith, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Posani Krishna Murali, and Anish Kuruvilla, were seen in key roles, but their performances failed to make an impact.

"Agent" failed to meet the audience's expectations due to weak plot and characterization, director's misfire, music and cinematography, and subpar performances. With a budget of 70-80 crores and a pre-release business of 42 crores, the film was expected to perform well at the box office. However, the movie's first-day share was only 4.5 crores, heading towards becoming one of the biggest disasters ever in Telugu film industry. Hopefully, the makers of the film will learn from their mistakes and come up with better films in the future.
