Pawan Kalyan has struck the North American box office with a thunderbolt with his latest release They Call Him OG. The film directed by
Sujeeth and also featuring
Emraan Hashmi has scripted history at the box office by taking the biggest premiere day collection of the year in North America. THe leaderboard was headlined by
Rajinikanth and
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie which had opened to USD 3.04million collection- the highest for any Tamil film till date. The response to the film is in stark contrast to his last film Hari Hara Veer Mallu which had folded up in North America with just a little over USD 1 million collection.
But generally the North American market tilts more towards Telugu and Hindi films, thereby helping Pawan Kalyan’s act as Ojas Gambheera taking a stellar opening of USD 3.13 million. WIth this the film has also become the 4th biggest opening for any Telugu film behind only
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2,
Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s RRR and Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD. By early evening the film has added another USD 500K to it’s collection in the circuit., taking the overall collection of the film nearer to USD 4 million mark.
With just it’s premiere day collection, it has also become the highest grossing Telugu film of the year in the circuit as the top spot was held by Ventakesh’s comedy action film Sankranthiki Vasthunam which had collected about UD 2.96 million. In the second spot is Teja Sajja’s latest film Mirai with more than USD 2.7 million collection.
They Call Him OG is doing wonders in India as well where the film collected about Rs 20.25 crore with just its paid premieres and on its day 1 the film minted Rs 70.75 crore across languages with Rs 70 crore coming just from Telugu version. It is expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark in the next few hours.
