Pushpa 2 makes Rs 134 crore in North America, falls just short of SS Rajamouli’s RRR collection

Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, has set the box office on fire in North America, grossing an impressive $15.26 million (₹134.01 crore) from over 1,100 locations. While the film claimed the 5th spot in the list of highest-grossing Indian films in North America, it narrowly missed surpassing SS Rajamouli's RRR, which starred Ram Charan and NTR Jr. RRR holds the 4th position with $15.4 million.In India it has become the highest grossing film of all time with Rs 1234 crore collection.

In terms of format, the Telugu 2D version added $6.27 million to the total, making up 41% of the revenue. The Hindi 2D version contributed $7.2 million, making it the highest-grossing Hindi release for a Telugu film in North America.

The total collection of Pushpa 2 in North America includes the earnings of Pushpa 2 - Reloaded, which featured additional footage and contributed nearly $966,000 to its overall collection.

The breakeven collection for the film was pegged at $15 million, the highest ever for a Telugu film in the region. While the film managed to cross this benchmark, it did not generate substantial profits for its distributors. In recent times, there has been increasing concern about the high acquisition costs of Telugu films in this market.

The United States has emerged as the biggest market for Telugu films outside India, with Telugu now being the 11th most spoken language in the country. However, despite the growing popularity of Telugu films, the teams responsible for promoting these films in North America have been feeling demoralized due to the financial strain.

On a brighter note, films like Venkatesh's Sankranthiki Vasthunam have proven to be lifesavers for distributors. Acquired at a reasonable cost, the film turned profitable by its 5th day of release, providing much-needed relief to the industry.
