Did You Know? Chiranjeevi’s “Gharana Mogudu” was the first Telugu film to gross over Rs 10 crore

After experiencing his fair share of struggles in the showbiz world, Chiranjeevi worked his way to become the Megastar of Telugu cinema by utilising his impeccable dialogue delivery, brilliant comic timing, tremendous acting prowess and superb dancing skills to the maximum. One of the numerous hits which turned him into a darling among the masses is ‘Gharana Mogudu’.Directed by K Raghavendra Rao, the commercial entertainer shattered all the existing records at the box-office and went to acquire a cult status over the years.
Meanwhile, not many know that Gharana Mogudu is the first Telugu film to gross over Rs 10 crore at the ticket counters. Starring Nagma and Vani Viswanath as the leading ladies, the film was also screened at the 1993 International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section. While MM Keeravani’s foot-tapping songs struck the right chord with the listeners, Chiranjeevi’s dance moves, especially in Bangaru Kodi Petta song created a rage in the theaters. The peppy number was later remade in Ram Charan’s ‘Magadheera’.
On the work front, the 64-year-old ‘Sye Raa’ actor is expected to resume the shooting of ‘Acharya’ once the on-going corona situation gets back into normalcy. Starring Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead, the socio-political entertainer directed by Koratala Siva will showcase the senior hero as a Naxalite-turned-social reformer.
