The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday arrested south actress
Naira Shah and her friend Ashiq Sajid Husain following consumption of charas (cannabis) from a hotel in Juhu, Mumbai, an official said.
The NCB searched the hotel room in the wee hours of the morning as part of its probe into alleged drug use based on a tip-off, a release said. It recovered one gram of Charas, rolled into cigarettes during the search, the release added.
"The room was raided at 3 am and the duo were in possession of one gram of Charas, rolled into cigarettes," according to the report.
Naira Shah has celebrated her birthday bash at the hotel Sunday night and after the party, he and her friend Ashiq Sajid Husain went to their suit. Around one gram of Charas, rolled into cigarettes was found in their room, police claimed.
Acting on a tip-off, Santacruz Police made the arrests when they were in the hotel room, an officer said.
"An investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to find out whether she is involved in any drug racket," police said.
According to the IPC Section 274, the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchasing, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance are prohibited.
Naira Shah and her Ashiq Sajid Husain have been booked under the National Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act for alleged drug consumption.
After her arrest, Naira and Ashiq were taken to the hospital for a medical examination before being produced before the court. According to the report, they had reportedly consumed the banned drugs at the birthday party. The local magistrate court on Monday granted bail to Naira and Ashiq, who was arrested for the consumption of drugs. The police are now investigating to ascertain the source of drugs.
