Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, Major is based on the life of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the NSG commando who rescued hostages and lost his life in the valorous mission during the tragic 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Bankrolled by Mahesh Babu under his own banner GMB Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Productions, the film is helmed as a Hindi - Telugu bilingual and the shooting is on the verge of completion.
Starring Sobhita Dhulipala and Saiee Manjrekar in pivotal roles, Major showcases the unknown side of the late Unnikrishnan to the world and to play the part, Adivi Sesh did his homework right from physical transformation and boot camp training to studying the material the officer’s parents have lovingly preserved at their Bengaluru residence.

Talking about this dream project, Adivi Sesh said to Times of India “When we were attending the 10-year memorial event of 26/11 in Mumbai in 2018, I saw a banner that was dedicated to Major Unnikrishnan, which we have replicated in the film, too. It struck me then that the character we were developing on paper was real. The incident was real, and so was the ultimate sacrifice. The 26/11 incident forms a highlight of the narrative, but the idea is to show the world the kind of person he was as a son, a friend, a colleague and a soldier.”
