Amala Paul is a well-known actress and in the South Indian film industry, known for her works in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films.

Hailing from Aluva in Kerala, the actress was pursuing graduation in Communicative English when Malayalam director Lal Jose spotter her modelling portfolio and offered her a supporting role in ‘Neelathamara’ in 2009. However, it was her role in Samy’s controversial ‘

’ that garnered her attention, despite the film receiving lukewarm reviews.

When her film ‘Mynaa’ with Prabhu Solomon garnered her recognition from even actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, there was no looking back for her after. Through the years, Amala has also acted in Telugu films like ‘Bejawada’, ‘Love Failure’, ‘Vettai’, ‘Nayak’, ‘Iddarammayilatho’ and ‘Janda Pai Kapiraju’. But more than Telugu and one Kannada film, the actress is known more for the roles in Tamil and Malayalam films.

Reports state that initially her father was strictly against Amala making a career out of films. But with her brother

’s support and juggling studies and films both, Amala proved to be a pro at acting, with many calling her a ‘natural actress’. Amala’s natural affinity for acting came from her parents who were into performing arts. Amala had for a while changed her on-screen name to Anakha, on the insistence of director Samy. However, after ‘Sindhu Samaveli’ she reverted back to her birth name because she felt that the replacement had brought on bad luck.
