September 20 is the late legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s birth anniversary and numerous Tollywood celebs took to social media to remember his contributions to Telugu cinema.

Born in the year 1923, ANR has acted in more than 250 films in his career, even winning the

Dadasaheb Phalke Award

. He was one of the few romantic stars in the early ages of Telugu cinema, with classics like Devadasu, Premabhisekham, Missamma, Premanagar and more dotting his filmography.

Remembering him on his birth anniversary, director Sreenu Vaitla wrote “Your journey bears testament that life doesn’t bless you with what you wish for, but rather what you work for. Remembering Legend Shri ANR garu on his Birth Anniversary.” (sic)



Director Sampath Nandi wrote, “On his birth anniversary..remembering the legendary soul who took Telugu cinema beyond boundaries n inspired many across the globe to live our dreams and life. #ANRLivesOn..his legacy lives on. #LegendANRJayanthi.” (sic)

and grandsons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni. He passed away in the year 2014.
