'Bholaa Shankar' legal dispute: Chiranjeevi's film gets green signal as City Civial Court rejects distributor's plea

In a recent high-profile legal dispute, the City Civil Court has ... Read More
In a recent legal battle that captivated the attention of the film industry and fans alike, the City Civil Court has rendered its decision, dismissing the petition filed by Visakhapatnam-based film distributor, Vizag Satish, also known as Bathula Satyanarayana. The dispute revolved around the release of the highly anticipated film, 'Bholaa Shankar,' and allegations of financial impropriety.

Satyanarayana had lodged a complaint in the court, accusing the producer of 'Bholaa Shankar,' Anil Sunkara for fraudulent activities amounting to a staggering sum of Rs. 30 crores. Satyanarayana contended that Anil Sunkara had entered into an agreement granting distribution rights of the previously released movie, 'Agent,' for the regions of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka to their distribution firm. However, he alleged that Anil had swindled him by accepting Rs. 30 crores under false pretences.

In the legal documents submitted to the court, Satyanarayana maintained that he possessed compelling evidence of the financial transaction between him and Anil. He outlined that a meeting had taken place in Hyderabad on May 1, during which he had engaged with Garikapati Krishna Kishore. It was during this meeting that it purportedly became apparent that the distribution rights granted to their company were limited only to the Visakhapatnam district. Satyanarayana argued that this discrepancy had been a breach of the agreement.

The court proceedings spanned two days, with both parties presenting their arguments fervently. The representatives of AK Entertainment, the aggrieved party, contended that they had been deceived once by Anil's promises of distribution rights for a previous film, 'Agent.' Now, they asserted, history was repeating itself with a promise to reimburse the funds just two weeks before the release of 'Bholaa Shankar.' In response, AK Entertainment, the production company behind 'Bholaa Shankar,' acknowledged the losses incurred through 'Agent' and pledged to compensate the distribution company by offering distribution rights to future films.

The distribution company at the heart of the dispute remained steadfast in their demand for the outstanding sum of Rs. 28.30 crore. The production house countered this claim by highlighting their contribution of Rs. 1 crore in profits to the distribution company from the film 'Samajavaragamana,' along with their commitment to extending distribution rights in subsequent projects.

The producers of 'Bholaa Shankar' emphasized that a substantial investment of Rs 120 crores had been made in the film's production, with pre-business transactions accounting for 60 crores. They asserted that they were owed a sum of Rs. 60 crores as a result of this agreement.

After thorough consideration of the arguments presented by both parties, the City Civil Court reached its verdict. The court ruled in favour of AK Entertainment, dismissing the petition lodged by the distribution company. With this legal hurdle now cleared, the path is seemingly unobstructed for the release of 'Bholaa Shankar.'
