City girl Heroshini thrilled to play NTR’s youngest daughter Uma Maheswari

Hyderabadi girl Heroshini Komali couldn’t thank her stars enough when she landed the role of Uma

, the youngest daughter of the legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao in his biopic — NTR Kathanayakudu. Uma Maheswari, a doctor by qualification, incidentally is the only person from the Nandamuri family who never stepped on a film set till date.

“It was an interesting character to play because I didn’t have many dialogues and there weren’t many photographs of Uma garu from her younger days. The entire Nandamuri family including Balakrishna, Purandareswari, Lokeswari and Bhuvaneswari were my guiding lights on the sets and their childhood stories made us all nostalgic. Every actor in the biopic got to meet their real life counterparts except me as Uma Maheswari garu is a very shy person! My scenes were shot at NTR garu’s house and I was transported into another era,” she says.

Heroshini confesses that she found it very challenging to transform into a calm woman who is nothing like her chirpy self. “I was told that she was the most silent
person in the NTR household and was overshadowed by her popular siblings and actor-politician father. She always remained by her mother’s side,” she adds.

Getting to don a langa-voni was something the St Mary’s

student thoroughly enjoyed. “She is was youngest girl in the NTR household in the 80s. While all the others were wearing traditional sarees, my langa-voni look set my character apart from the rest. Acting with an ensemble cast and forging a bond with the Nandamuris was indeed a dream come true,” Heroshini states, adding, “Though I have a brief role in NTR Kathanayakudu, I will be seen in a bigger role in NTR Mahanayakudu, the second part of the biopic.”
