Bollywood star Deepika Padukone will reprise her role in the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster sci-fi mythological film 'Kalki 2898 AD'. Playing 'SUM-80', who is revealed to be carrying the child destined to become Kalki, the final avatar of Lord Vishnu. The sequel, 'Kalki 2', is expected to begin filming in the summer of 2025.

Despite her commitment to the film, Deepika has made it clear that her daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, is her top priority. At a recent gathering organized by Deepika and her husband, Ranveer Singh, to introduce Dua to the media, she expressed that she is in no rush to return to work. Deepika shared her desire to raise her daughter herself without relying on a nanny and the same way her mother raised her.

In a previous media interaction, she had said, "I will raise my daughter myself, just the way my mom raised me."

The sequel will also feature legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles, with Nag Ashwin returning as director. Producers Priyanka and Swapna Dutt revealed that approximately 30-35% of 'Kalki 2' was filmed during the production of the first part. The sequel promises to be a grand international release.

'Kalki 2898 AD', which was released in June 2024, was praised for its innovative blend of mythology and science fiction. The film grossed over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide and was lauded for its visual effects and compelling performances.
