SS Rajamouli is known for creating blockbuster films including 'Baahubali,' 'RRR,' and more. His unique talent for epic, historical action drama films is widely acknowledged. But did you know that SS Rajamouli once remade an English movie that became a box office hit in the South?

In 2010, Rajamouli made the film 'Maryada Ramanna' featuring Sunil in the lead role. The movie became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2010. The movie is reportedly based on the 1923 silent film 'Our Hospitality.' Rajamouli was impressed by Buster Keaton’s silent comedy 'Our Hospitality' and wanted to recreate this story for the South.

He tried to contact the original creators of the film but discovered that they had passed away long ago and that the film's copyright had expired, as it had been over 75 years since its release. SS Kanchi and Rajamouli then adapted the story, setting it against the backdrop of Rayalaseema, focusing on the violence between factions and the region's hospitality.


Initially, Trisha Krishnan was considered for the female lead in the film. However, according to sources, Trisha declined the role as Sunil is a comedy actor, and she thought it would affect her career. 'Maryada Ramanna' was later remade into several languages.
