From classrooms to Kaliyugam Pattanamlo: Chandra Obul Reddy calls the shots

Dr Kandula Chandra Obul Reddy, a successful owner of educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh, is making a surprising leap into the world of cinema. Creating opportunities for his students aspiring to work in cinema is the goal, he says. “As an educator, I see this as a natural extension. Through my production house, Nani Movie Works, I want to provide students with practical experience in the film industry, preparing them for future careers.” Reddy’s inaugural project, titled Kaliyugam Pattanamlo, is slated to hit theaters on March 29th.

The film marks the directorial debut of Ramakanth Reddy, and features actors Vishva Karthikeya, Ayushi Patel and Chitra Shukla in pivotal roles. Speaking about the film, Reddy says, “Set in the Nandyal town of Andhra Pradesh, the story explores themes of love, family, and societal judgment arising from a single mistake. Today, we often focus on others’ lives instead of our own, yearning for what seems better. Kaliyugam Pattanamlo embodies this concept of modern life,” he explains.
“The script was captivating, but another major draw was the chance to showcase my hometown, Kadapa, on screen,” he adds.Reddy has found a warm welcome in the industry. “It feels like I’ve entered into a new family,” he says, adding, “The industry has embraced me as one of their own and I’ve received immense support from many people, including Anurag Kulkarni and the Oscar-winning lyricist Chandrabose, who provided music for the film,” he says, signing off.
