Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar's love story began when they first met on the sets of their movie 'Vamsi' in 2000. The duo played the lead roles in the film and later, fell in love with each other. Mahesh was smitten by her beauty and charm and soon they began dating. This couple, who first got closer, fell in love and led a love affair of almost five years.

First love proposal
Once, Vamsi unit headed to New Zealand as part of the outdoor shooting. It was shot there for about 25 days. At that time, their friendship grew stronger. After returning from the shoot, Namrata was the first to express her love. As Mahesh was already very fond of Namrata, he immediately accepted her love proposal. Then love blossomed into something more as they spent time together learning about each other's lives and interests. In the end, the couple found that their love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle and decided to take their relationship to the next level.

Refusal from Mahesh's family
But their love was not accepted by Mahesh's family members initially. There were reports that Mahesh Babu's father superstar Krishna refused their marriage. Krishna did not like Mahesh marrying a heroine. One more reason for his refusal that she is not a Telugu native. Therefore, Mahesh took the help of his sister Manjula Ghattamaneni. Mahesh and Namrata welcomed their elder son, Gautham into their lives on August 31, 2006. Almost six years later, on July 20, 2012, they became parents for the second time to Sitara. Quitting acting career
Namrata quit acting after marriage. She put a full stop to her acting career at a time when she was getting a lot of offers in Bollywood as well as in Tollywood. Speaking on the same, Namrata said in an interview, 'I never had the desire to become a top heroine. When I wanted to marry Mahesh, I decided to give up films.’ She admitted had no regrets about what happened.
