Actress Gayathri Patel, who has worked in Tamil films, is all set to make her Tollywood debut with the upcoming film ‘Cheddy Gang’. The actress will be seen essaying a character with strong external layers in the film. Considering that it is her first appearance in Telugu cinema, Gayathri is extremely excited and in an exclusive conversation with ETimes, the talented young actress expressed her joy over making her debut in Tollywood.
Excerpts from the interview: How did you get the opportunity to star in ‘Cheddy Gang’? I auditioned for the role and fell in love with the story, the moment it was narrated. It's a beautiful film, and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.
How hard was it for you to bag your first project? We get inspired quickly by watching movies, but entering the industry is no cakewalk, especially for us women. My parents weren’t much supportive initially. Convincing them was a huge task, however, if it wasn’t for them, I would have never become an actor. My father used to recommend me movies of Savitri and Soundarya.
I did my first modelling gig when I was a sophomore at college, which eventually helped me bag some advertisements. Though I enjoyed my modelling career, acting was something I was more passionate about. After my father's death, many people told me to choose a different career, but I stood strong. As a woman, I was able to withstand financial troubles, and that was the best part of my life.
Tell us more about your role in ‘Cheddy Gang’?My role will be a huge surprise for the audience. It’s a challenging role, and I enjoyed playing it. You can feel all types of emotions in my character. The elements in the film will appeal to audiences of all age groups. It will keep them on the edge of their seat for sure.
How was your experience working with Venkat Kalyan?Venkat Kalyan garu is a cool guy. It’s a herculean task to handle multiple tasks at a time, but he managed direction, production, action, and all. He has been working on this project for the last two years and he knows it inside out.
When will ‘Cheddy Gang’ reach the cinemas? We’ve finished the entire shooting in 45 days, and now we’re about to wrap up post-production works. I’ve also finished dubbing my portions. I think the film will hit the theatres in September.
Tell us about your experience facing the movie camera for the first time.When I was a child, I used to act and dance in front of the mirror. I was always at the forefront of participating in cultural activities during my school and college days. I like to mingle with people. I consider the camera as a friend, and I am very comfortable facing it.
What do you like about yourself as an actor?My eyes speak more than I do. People have told me that my eyes are expressive, and even I feel the same.
What is next in the pipeline?I have signed another Telugu film, but the title has not been confirmed yet. It will be a family drama thriller. Apart from that, I will also star in a Tamil film, for which I will be sharing screen space with some popular actors.
