Deyyam

No horror film list will ever be complete without listing this film. The story of how a couple moves into a haunted farmhouse with their young son and the wife’s sister in tow is a classic. The final scene is such a shocker even today; you would be lying if you said it didn’t affect you.
Chandramukhi

Cast: Rajinikanth, Jyothika, Prabhu, Nayanthara
Yes, Chandramukhi is a dubbed film but it truly deserves to be on the list because you know as well as we do that when Ganga changes into the titular dancer and says – Varaiiiii – chills run down your spine even today. Also, did we mention, it has Rajinikanth?

Four friends decide to commit suicide together at a farmhouse but a ghost possesses one of them to disrupt their plans – what’s not to like? Plus, this film manages to get the balance of romance, comedy, horror and tragedy just right, making for a considerably light-hearted watch.

Cast: Siddharth, Andrea Jeremiah
Yes yes we know, another Tamil dubbed film but this one deserves a place in this list too. Gruham goes beyond the usual living vs dead narration, delving deeper into the psyche and how the living are jammed between a supernatural tug-of-war.
