Happy Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2022: How many of you know that the late Sri Devi played the role of Lord Krishna in a Telugu film?

Sri Devi, cited as the first lady superstar of India is also a recipient of several awards and accolades, she played a wide range of roles in her career spanning over 50 long years and has tested her hands in a wide range of genres from slapstick comedy to epic dramas.

She made her acting debut at the age of four as a child actor in a Tamil film ‘Kandhan Karunai' in 1967. She played the role of several deities as a child actor, such as Lord Muruga in 'Thunaivan' (Tamil Film) and Lord Krishna in a 1975 Telugu film ‘Yashoda Krishna’ besides a few other characters in epic dramas.

'Yashoda Krishna' directed by C.S. Rao also marked the debut of south actress Rohini Molleti at the age of 5 (Later she married actor Raghu Varan). The film is also special for several other reasons as it is also remembered for the final on-screen appearance of legendary Telugu actor SV Rangarao and the film was released posthumously after his demise.

'Yashoda Krishna' is based on the life of Lord Krishna with a few interesting episodes starting from the marriage of Devaki-Vasudeva, the birth of Lord Krishna and his leelas with gopikas to the killing of Kamsa by him. The success of the film later made it dubb into other regional languages such as Tamil and Kannada, and the film is still appreciated for its photography, colour combinations and its music.
