Kamal Haasan is celebrating his 66th birthday on Saturday and social media has already been flooded with special wishes from fans, family, friends and colleagues in the film fraternity. He started off as a child artist at the age of four in ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ and won the President’s Gold Medal for his maiden film itself. After featuring in a handful of films, Kamal took a hiatus and returned to the industry seven years later as a dance assistant. It was K Balachander who offered the first full-fledged role to Haasan in the 1973 drama ‘Arangetram’ and the following year, he played the protagonist in the Malayalam film ‘Kanyakumari’. Since the release of ‘Apoorva Raagangal’, there has been no looking back for the Ulaganayagan in Tamil and Telugu cinema.
In an illustrious acting career spanning over five decades, Kamal Haasan has featured in close to 200 languages in multiple languages including Hindi.
