’ based on legendary South Indian actress Savitri walked away with the

Equality In Cinema

Award at the

Westpac IIFM

(Indian Film Festival of Melbourne) Awards. The Telugu-Tamil bilingual film which bagged critical and commercial acclaim both on the home turf and abroad has been nominated in three categories at the international event.

Keerthy Suresh has been nominated for the Best Actress award along with Rani Mukherjee, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Bhanita Das. The gold eventually went to Rani for her terrific performance as a teacher with Tourette’s syndrome in ‘Hichki’. Samantha Akkineni was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award for her role in ‘Mahanati’, but the shield was shared between Vicky Kaushal for ‘

Sanju

’ and Richa Chadha for ‘Love Sonia’.


Ecstatic with the global honour, the team of ‘Mahanati’ which graced the IIFM event took to Twitter to announce the news. Keerthy Suresh, Nag Ashwin along with producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt attended the Sunday Awards night in Melbourne. While Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ bagged the Best Film honour, versatile actor Manoj Bajpayee won the Best Actor for his yet-to-release ‘Gali Guleiyan’.
