When we got in touch with
Lavanya Tripathi to get her to join our
#MaskIndia
campaign and encourage people to make their own
masks
, we were pleasantly surprised.
The
Arjun Suravaram
star told us that she’s teamed up with city designer
Anitha Reddy
, to start a non-profit venture to manufacture and supply homemade masks. “Anitha is a good friend, and she told me that her entire staff, who are on paid leave, volunteered to work from home. So we decided to use their services to make homemade masks, which are the need of the hour,” revealed Lavanya.
The duo have plans to manufacture protective masks for the
medical
fraternity too. “After consulting many senior doctors, we brought out a batch of masks made of sustainable cotton. They’re comfortable to wear, easy to breathe in and can also be washed with hot water and reused,” shares Lavanya, adding, “Once we get necessary approvals, we will also start making
N95
masks for healthcare workers. During this time of crisis, we need to offer them all the support we can.”
Lavanya says the aim of her initiative is to spread awareness about the importance of wearing masks for public safety and support the health care workers who are fighting on the front lines against the global pandemic. “The masks will be sold at a marginal cost and whatever proceeds come from it will only go to the workers who are manufacturing these masks. We will start with producing 50 masks a day and increase production based on the demand. Hopefully, we will see everybody wearing sustainable homemade masks soon,” she says, signing off.
