‘Mishan Impossible isn’t a kids film, it’s a mainstream entertainer’

Thefact that it refers to the protagonists — Raghupati, Raghava and Raja Ram — played by the child actors Harsh Roshan, Bhanuprakash and Jayateertha as superheroes adds to the comic element. Especially when you realise they’re out on a mission, er, mishan — a manhunt for none other than the dreaded mafia kingpin Dawood Ibrahim. Why? So they can split the ` 5,00,0000 bounty that the Indian government has announced for anyone who hunts him down.

The obvious references to a cult hit like Mission Impossible and a magnum opus like Raja Mouli’s RRR may make it seem like a spoof from the word go, but director Swaroop RSJ assures us that his comic caper is inspired by real-life events. “It’s true... My film is actually a fictional retelling of a true incident that took place in 2014 in Patna. Three school kids wanted to get rich quick by turning Dawood over to the authorities... I was inspired by that,” explains the director, who made a blockbuster debut with the 2019 film Agent

, also happens to be Taapsee Pannu’s comeback to Telugu cinema. But looks like Taapsee has only got a supporting role. “Taapsee plays an investigative journalist in the movie. But the three kids are the main leads of the film. This is not a kids’ film though; it’s meant for everyone,” says Swaroop, adding, “I want to prove that a film will work as long as it has a well-written story and good actors, even if it doesn’t have stars headlining it.”

Producer Anvesh Reddy chips in, “The trailer sets the mood and tone of the film. It’s great to see that even Mahesh Babu liked it. We’re confident that this comedy-thriller will draw the audience to the theatres.” Co-producer NM Pasha adds, “The trailer got almost seven million views, it is a big deal for a small film. We’re glad it is has been so well-received.”
