The
Delhi High Court granted interim protection to Telugu actor
Naga Chaitanya in a personality rights case. The actor approached the court over the alleged misuse of his name, image and likeness on several digital platforms.
As per a report by News18, the matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh. During the hearing, it was argued that multiple websites were allegedly using the ‘Thandel’ actor’s name along with explicit search terms. It was claimed that this was being done to attract online traffic and spread objectionable content. The court was informed about merchandise listings that allegedly used the actor’s likeness without permission.
Naga Chaitanya’s team claims of online misuse
According to the suit, Naga Chaitanya’s personality rights have been misused in several ways. The plea mentioned pornographic websites, AI-generated content, deepfake videos and defamatory material. It also raised concerns about the unauthorised commercial use of the actor’s identity. It was also claimed that such material was circulated online and could affect his reputation.
The court took note of the allegations and issued summons to the defendants in the case. The defendants have been directed to file their responses before the next stage of the proceedings.
Reports said that YouTube also appeared during the hearing in connection with concerns over content hosted on the platform. The court is expected to examine the issues raised regarding online content and its impact on public personalities.
Naga Chaitanya’s team has also requested a dynamic injunction. This would help tackle websites and URLs that repeatedly reappear after being removed. Such orders are often sought in cases where infringing content keeps returning through new links or mirror websites.
The matter will be taken up again after the defendants submit their replies.
Naga Chaitanya work front
On the work front, Naga Chaitanya was last seen in the romance adventure drama, ‘Thandel’. Upon its release, the film went on to become a hit. Now, he is working on his upcoming mystical adventure thriller, ‘Vrushakarma.’
