Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni appeared in a Hyderabad court on Tuesday to record his statement in a Rs 100 crore criminal defamation case against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha. This legal action was taken after the controversial remarks made by the minister regarding the divorce of Nagarjuna's son, Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu's ex-marriage.

The controversy took place after Surekha alleged that BRS leader KT Rama Rao was involved in the reasons behind the couple's split in 2021. Her comments, made during a public event, led to a backlash from both political circles and the Telugu film industry. Surekha later withdrew her statements, claiming they were made in an emotional moment. However, Nagarjuna felt that her remarks had severely damaged his family's reputation.

As per a Hindustan Times report, Nagarjuna accompanied by his wife Amala and son Naga Chaitanya reached the Nampally court to present his case. He filed the defamation complaint under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), asserting that Surekha's comments were not only false but also harmful to his family's public image.

Following Surekha's statements, both Samantha and Naga Chaitanya publicly clarified that their divorce was a mutual decision. The ex-couple condemned the minister's remarks as derogatory, with many prominent figures in the Telugu film industry voicing their disapproval of her comments.

The case has been scheduled for a hearing on October 10, where the court will decide on taking cognizance of Nagarjuna's complaint.
