If playing a single role effectively with intense action and emotions is a huge task these days, some actors have played dual and triple roles and yet made their movies blockbusters with their acting and engaging screenplays. The upcoming Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s film ‘Amigos’ features him in three roles the feat earlier repeated by his brother Jr.NTR in ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ (2017). SrNTR in ‘Dana Veera Soora Karna' (1977)
Sr NTR’s 1977 film ‘Daana Veera Soora Karna' is a film based on Hindu Mythology in which Sr.NTR played the title character Karna beside Lord Krishna and Duryodhana. The film was based on the life of Lord Karna from ‘Mahabharata’ which is also co-written, produced and directed by NTR Rama Rao. The cult hit film is even popular today among the Telugu people.

Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s 1966 film ‘Navaratri’ directed by Tatineni Rama Rao showcased Akkineni Nageswara Rao in 9 characters based on its storytelling such as he was seen as Anand Rao – The Widower, Devadasu – T
he Drunkard, Karunakar – The Doctor, Gopal Rao – The Gunman, Shantaiyah – The Villager, Siriopuram Sundaramaiyah – The Leper, Bhagavathar – The Actor, SP Rao – The Hunter and Venu the Bridegroom as the plot itself is based on what happens with a man during the nine nights of ‘Navaratri’.

Sobhan Babu has featured in a Telugu remake of a Tamil film enacted by Rajinikanth in the original titled ‘Moondru Mugam’ in which Sobhan Played the 3 roles directed by Tatineni Ramarao entertained the Telugu audience and the movie is said to be a decent hit at the box-office.

Chandra Mohan in 'Dammit Katha Addam Thirigindi' (1987)
This is a comedy film produced by Jyothi Kumar and directed by K.Vasu starring Rajendra Prasad, Chandra Mohan, Naresh and Jeevitha Rajashekar in the lead roles. The film showcases actor Chandra Mohan in a triple role as Chandram, Chalapathi and Parvathisam.

Chiranjeevi in ‘Mugguru Monagallu’ (1994)
This 1994 film by K.Raghavendra Rao and produced under Chiranjeevi’s home banner by Nagendra Babu and Pawan Kalyan feature Chiranjeevi in triple roles as Prudhvi, Vikram and Dattatreya. The film has its music composed by Vidyasagar dubbed into Tamil as ‘Alex Pandian (1994).’

Balakrishna in ‘Adi Nayakudu’(2012)
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 2012 film ‘Adi Nayakudu’ written and directed by Paruchuri Murali starred Nandamuri Balakrishna in triple roles. He was seen as Harishchandra Prasad, Rama Krishna Prasad and Bobby in the movie which has its music composed by Kalyani Malik.

Kamalhaasan in ‘Michael Madana Kamaraju’ (1990)
The 1990 Tamil comedy film ‘Michael Madana Kama Rajan’ (1990) written by Kader Kashmiri and directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao featured Kamal Haasan in four roles. The film has its music composed by Ilayaraja while its cinematography was performed by B.C.Gowrishankar and the film were edited by D. Vasu. Though this is not the only film Kamal Hassan acted in in multiple roles, this is also one of the Best films that he did in multiple roles before his ‘Dasavarataram’.

Nandamuri Kalyanram in ‘Amigos (2023)’
Nandamuri Kalyanram’s 2023 film ‘Amigos’ written and directed by Rajendra Reddy features him in doppelganger roles as Siddharth an entrepreneur, Manjunath a software engineer and the Gangster Michael. The film stars Kannada actress Ashika Ranganath as the female lead while NIthin Prasanna and others play other important roles in the film.

JrNTR in ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ (2017)
The action drama film was written and directed by KS. Ravindra aka Bobby featured JrNTR in a triple as Jai, Lav and Kush. The film had Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Thomas in triple roles and was a successful venture at the Tollywood box office.

Sampoornesh Babu in ‘Kobbari Matta’ (2019)
‘Kobbari Matta’ is a 2019 Telugu parody film written by Steven Shankar and directed by Rupak Ronaldson starring actor Sampoornesh Babu in a three-generation of roles as Paparayudu, Pedarayudu and Androyudu.
The film was released on 10th August 2019 in theatres and was a moderate success for its funny scenes and performances.
