Police complaint filed against RGV for the song Vennupotu from Lakshmi’s NTR

Controversy's favourite child, Ram Gopal Varma has struck again. If the intention was to steal the thunder from the recently released theatrical trailer of the much awaited NTR biopic, the recently song Vennupotu from his next film, Lakshmi's NTR, did more than just hit the bull’s eye and how. The song, that talks of people who had backstabbed NT Rama Rao, has kicked up a furore with Telugu Desam Party leaders accusing RGV of maligning Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu.
The song, filled with high-pitched shouts of Vennupotu, Kutra and Daga, shows a montage of photographs of close family members and aides of the late NTR in the early 90s, who supported Chandrababu’s take over of the TDP legislative party in that infamous coup after which he became chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1995.
The song has sparked off a series of protests in various parts of Andhra Pradesh and a TDP MLA has even filed a written complaint raising objections that the song has been framed to demean AP CM Chandrababu Naidu ahead of the elections. People have also questioned the timing of the song’s release, which has released
in tandem with another NTR biopic directed by Krish.

Lakshmi’s NTR is not an attempt to antagonise Chandrababu Naidu: RGV
Amidst widespread protests by TDP workers, RGV clarified that he has not directly targeted the AP CM in the film. “This isn’t an attempt to antagonise anyone from the NTR family or Chandrababu Naidu. I’m just trying portray a series of incidents that happened two decades ago through a film. How can someone imagine that this is my attempt to malign a political party? I haven’t mentioned any names in the song and there are a lot of characters beyond Chandrababu Naidu who are shown in the lyrical video of the song,” he explains.
