A few days ago, the NRI producer of Tollywood’s independent film ‘

C/O Kancharapalem

’, Praveena Paruchuri took to Twitter and announced that the film had been rejected from getting nominated for the

National Awards

as it was produced by her, a US citizen of Indian origin. Sharing her plight on social media, the New York-based cardiologist tweeted “Dear Visionary Leaders @ktrtrs @ncbn @narendramodi , #CareOfKancharapalem was made in India, by Indians, with Indians, released in India and appreciated by Indians, yet is not eligible for #nationalfilmawards. If this is the reason for ineligibility, Why @makeinindia ??”
After this touching post by Praveena, TRS party working president KTR appealed to the Union Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to kindly reconsider their decision. Swinging into action immediately, the political bigwigs have suggested Praveena Parachuri to once again apply for the awards in the name of Suresh Babu or Rana Daggubati as at least one of the co-producers should be an Indian citizen.

Rajyavardhan Singh also indicated that she can herself apply for the IFFI 2019 under the International competition section. Praveena expressed her happiness on the expedient response and hoped that the concerned authorities will permanently amend this rule.
Made on a shoe-string budget, ‘C/O Kancharapalem’ took the viewers beyond the accustomed cinematic settings to get familiarised with the sights, sound and lives of people living in a suburb of Visakhapatnam city called Kancharapalem. Directed by debutante Venkatesh Maha, the film is a narration of four love stories of different ages weaved together in one of the sweetest and heart-warming climaxes you’ll ever see.
