During an appearance on Nandamuri Balakrishna’s talk show Unstoppable with NBK, Ram Charan admitted that starring in the Bollywood remake of Amitabh Bachchan's iconic film Zanjeer was a decision he regretted.

Reflecting on the experience, Ram Charan acknowledged that while the project held immense promise, it did not meet expectations. The film’s underwhelming reception marked a challenging phase for the actor, who was simultaneously navigating a new language and audience in Bollywood.

Ram Charan’s Bollywood debut in 2013, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, aimed to reimagine the classic 1973 film that originally starred Amitabh Bachchan as a fearless police officer. The remake, also featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, was released in Hindi and Telugu, with the latter titled ‘Thoofan’. Despite its ambitious attempt to revive a cinematic classic, the film failed to impress audiences and critics alike, becoming one of the less celebrated projects in Charan’s filmography.

The original ‘Zanjeer’, penned by Salim–Javed and directed by Prakash Mehra, is a landmark in Indian cinema, credited with cementing Amitabh Bachchan's "angry young man" persona. Comparatively, the remake struggled to capture the same essence, facing criticism for its execution and lack of originality.
