'Rangasthalam': Five reasons why you should watch Ram Charan and Samantha starrer

Ram Charan and Samantha starrer, Sukumar's directorial 'Rangasthalam', is releasing on March 30 amidst high expectations. With music by Devi Sri Prasad, lyrics by Chandrabose, DOP by Rathnavelu and also starring Aadhi Pinisetty, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Jagapathi Babu in lead roles, the Telugu film is set in the 1980s in a fictional village called 'Rangasthalam'. While literally all of the promotional materials released by the filmmakers have given fans enough reasons to watch the film, before 'Rangasthalam' movie review is out here are our five reasons why you should catch 'Rangasthalam':

Veering from the usual urban and peppy storylines, Sukumar has taken a U-turn with 'Rangasthalam' by making a village-based film set in the 80s. The director, while talking to Hyderabad Times admitted he was going back to his roots with this one. While Sukumar's stories have so far shown the stories of urbane, current and young, it would be extremely interesting to see a tale more authentic to the rural side of things.

The starry cast
Everyone working on the 'Rangasthalam' – right from Ram Charan, Samantha and Aadhi Pinisetty, to Jagapathi Babu, Anasuya and Prakash Raj – are said to have gotten into the skin of their characters to deliver their best. It is also refreshing to see the stars who usually play the urban heroes, play the roles of raw everyday men and women, devoid of all the chicness that usually surrounds them on-screen.


DSP's fun jukebox
While the teaser and trailer of 'Rangasthalam' were massive hits, the songs composed by Devi Sri Prasad and penned by Chandrabose have taken the film’s craze to a whole new level. The composer, looking for authenticity, brought in a lot of folk singers and musicians on-board for the film. Composing the songs in just a span of three and half days, everything from the titular ‘Ranga Ranga Rangasthalam’ and ‘Rangamma Mangamma’ to the special song ‘Jigel Rani’ with Pooja Hegde have been received with love.


Rathnavelu's DOP
Rathnavelu who has lent his expertise to films like 'Robo', 'Arya' and '1-Nenokkadine' has worked on 'Rangasthalam' too. Talking at the audio launch in Visakhapatnam, Sukumar has said that if anyone deserves credit for the film’s look, it is Rathnavelu. He even went so far as saying, that after watching the film if anyone wants to appreciate him as a director, they should give due credit to Rathnavelu first.

The nostalgia factor
'Rangasthalam' is set in a fictional village in the 1980s and the filmmakers have done a lot of research for the film, to get even the minute details right. Sukumar revealed to Hyderabad Times that he had taken the help of his brother to recall a lot of details for the era. And that the stylists had also done their bit to get the look of the characters right. As for Rathnavelu, Sukumar had credited him for defining the psychology of the film and effectively showcasing a dry Godavari instead of the green one the audience is used to watching in films.
