Sonakshi Sinha, Salman Khan, and Tamannaah Bhatia: Actors who follow a no-kissing policy on screen

Several Bollywood actors have chosen to draw clear boundaries when it comes to kissing scenes in movies. Whether driven by personal comfort, cultural values, or creative choices, these stars have stood by their no-kissing policies despite changing trends in cinema. From Riteish Deshmukh to Salman Khan, here's a look at some well-known names who have stayed true to their convictions and how they’ve explained their stance over the years.

Riteish Deshmukh

Actor Riteish Deshmukh has been firm about his no-kissing policy on screen, and he refused to kiss his co-star Jacqueline Fernandez in the 2010 film Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, directed by Milap Zaveri. The actor revealed that he feels shy about kissing someone on screen, especially with a million people watching on the shooting set. He also stated that he cannot feel emotionally detached while kissing someone on camera. However, he did have an on-screen kissing scene with his wife, actress Genelia D’Souza, in the 2022 film Ved.

Bobby Deol

Bobby Deol is another actor who follows a no-kissing policy. He has previously shared that he feels awkward performing such scenes. The actor also added that this may change in the future depending on the requirements of the role. There was also a unique incident involving Bobby Deol’s kissing scene with Ranbir Kapoor in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which was eventually removed. It was intended to depict his character's obsession with his brother, but the director later decided to cut the scene.

Sonakshi Sinha

The actress has a strict no-kissing policy on screen, and she had earlier explained her reasons in an interview with ETimes. She revealed that she has never missed out on opportunities because of her decision not to do on-screen kissing scenes. She finds such scenes uncomfortable and has made it clear to directors that she will not compromise on this matter. She believes that if a director sees value in her character portrayal and acting, they will not drop her just because of this limitation.

Tamannaah Bhatia

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia also follows a no-kissing and no-intimate scene policy. However, she once broke her 18-year-long rule for the Sujoy Ghosh-directed anthology Lust Stories 2. The actress admitted that her scene with Vijay Varma was not done for publicity but because it felt essential for the creative narrative of the project. She was keen to work with Sujoy, and the opportunity did not leave her with any regrets.

Salman Khan

During an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Salman Khan shared that he has never felt it necessary to include a kissing scene, which is why he has never performed one on screen. The actor has previously said that such intimate scenes make him feel awkward. He also shared an instance where his family had to stop watching Hollywood films together due to the intimate content they often contained.
