Tellywood to Tollywood: These girls have come a long way

It has been the norm for popular faces on television to try their luck on the big screen. If it was the likes of Vidya Balan, Prachi Desai and Yami Gautam in Hindi, closer home, Lavanya Tripathi and Avika Gor have sealed the deal. And yet again, we have a new crop of girls on the big screen, who all started their innings on the idiot box and are creating ripples on the silver screen. We give you a low down on some of the latest entrants into Telugu cinema:


My dad advised me to start with TV so that I���d get comfortable with the camera: Niharika
Having come from a film family, she could have chosen to venture into films directly. But, Niharika decided to take it at a slow pace and tested waters as a reality show host on TV. And she was an instant hit. ���It was my dad���s suggestion that I start off with TV because he felt it would make it easy for me to face the camera and I would be comfortable. Well, he was right,��� shares the actress. The Mega Princess, as they lovingly call her, recently made her debut with director Ramaraju���s Oka Manasu, and might we say, the mega fans went into a frenzy, despite the film not faring so well.

Anasuya Bharadwaj is loved for her bubbly demeanour when she hosts the popular television comedy show, Jabardasth. Her claim to fame on the silver screen in Kshanam as a feisty cop, was quite contrary to her usual image. ���It���s a myth that TV faces can���t make it into

. If there���s talent then you can make it big anywhere. I want to balance both movies and TV. But TV will certainly be my first love, no matter how many movies I act in,��� says the actress, who also underwent a massive makeover. The happy mother of two says she���s not ���rushing into anything��� despite being flooded with offers.


I love being in front of the camera, the medium is irrelevant: Rashmi Gautam
Rashmi caught everyone���s attention as the trendy girl in the TV show, Yuva, and later was noticed for her performance in Prasthanam. Her debut as the heroine in Guntur Talkies only happened much after she garnered fame as a TV host in Extra Jabardasth. Today, such is her popularity, that a recent film was marketed solely on her ���sex appeal���, despite it being a horror film! While she has several projects in her kitty now, and offers are continuing to pour in, she���s still enjoying her prime on TV. Speaking about juggling the two, she says,���I love being in front of the camera. It doesn���t matter which medium it is; talent shouldn���t be limited to just one medium. Times are changing; the new gen of TV actors are breaking stereotypes, and stepping into Tollywood as well.���


TV schedules got tiring: Sonarika Bhadoria
With her role as goddess Parvati on Devon ke Dev��� Mahadev, Sonarika became one of the most popular stars on Indian television. But, popularity notwithstanding, she quit the show because the schedules was exhausting to say the least. ���It got tiring after a while. Day-long schedules and inability to take breaks were tough. I had offers for films and so I thought ���why not���. I can now worry less about my health and even have a social life.��� And quite the decision that. Jadoogadu and Speedunnodu didn���t work at the box-office but Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam proved to be a hit. One can only hope this means seeing more of this talented young lady.
TV or films, acting is acting: Pallavi Subhash
Set to make her debut in T���town with the remake of Vicky Donor starring Sumanth, Pallavi Subhash would be familiar for her role as Rukmini in the TV show Mahabharat. This Marathi girl, who will be playing a Bengali banker in her Telugu debut, doesn���t think that the small screen and the big screen are too different. ���For me acting is acting. I have been working on TV shows and Marathi films simultaneously so there wasn���t really a transition to the silver screen for me.���


I want to see if people will love me on the big screen too: Jayathi
There must have been thousands of television watchers who tried to speak to her as she hosted the show Vennela on a popular Telugu music channel. With eager fans calling to say hello and some even asking her to remember them from the last time they called, Jayathi has been a name to reckon with. After receiving several offers to star in films, Jayathi is taking a leap into cinema soon. ���VJing happened unexpectedly. What kept me going was the warmth and the acceptance of the people. Now, I want to see if the movie-going audience will accept me on the silver screen too,��� she says.
