Tollywood movies leaked online before its release

Due to technological advancements, there are some erroneous things occurring in and around the society. Among them, piracy is one of the worst things to affect global cinema. Over the years, piracy is growing day by day although there are rules and laws to curb it.

Filmmakers and production houses lose a lot of money which they pour into making a film as piracy hinders box office numbers. Some Telugu films have faced the brunt of this social evil. Let’s have a look at these Tollywood movies which leaked online before the release.

An uncensored version of the Pawan Kalyan starrer 'Attarintiki Daredi' leaked online a few days before its official release. Reports stated that 45-minutes of the film had been leaked by a technician who worked for the film. It’s unfortunate that cast and crew worked on it for almost nine months only to find their hard work going down the drain when with the leaked. However, despite the leak, power star’s huge fan following, coupled with Trivikram Srinivas’ direction, Devi Sri Prasad’s music helped the film’s box office numbers.

'Baahubali – The Beginning', SS Rajamouli's magnum opus also fell prey to piracy. The film was leaked online when it was in its editing phase. One of the technicians had reportedly copied the climax war sequence on his mobile to share with his friends. However, the film went on to become a blockbuster hit and one of India's highest grossing films of all time.

The megastar Chiranjeevi starrer 'Shankar Dada MBBS' was also no exception. Some of the scenes in the film were reportedly pirated by a technician and soon went viral on social media. With this incident, there was a massive buzz created around the film even though it was the official remake of Hindi film ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’, starring Sanjay Dutt in the lead role. Unperturbed by the leak, the makers released the film on the scheduled date. The Jayanth C Paranjee directorial went on to become a big hit at the box office.

'Yevadu', directed by Vamshi Paidipally and his team took necessary precautions against any leaks. However, the film made its way online a night before its official release. The makers wanted to postpone the film, but their decision to release it made the movie one of the biggest blockbusters of that year. Starring Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Kajal Aggarwal, and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, the film’s business wasn’t affected by the leak.

The Vijay Devarakonda starrer 'Geetha Govindam' leaked online a couple of days before it releases on August 15, 2018. The makers of the movie held an event and requested fans and the audience to watch the film only in theatres. Upon its release, it was declared unanimous as a hit not just at the domestic box office but also at the worldwide ticket window.
