Veteran Telugu lyricist, screenwriter, and artist Siva Shakthi Datta passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 92. He is best remembered for his lyrical and literary finesse, which greatly enriched Telugu cinema over the decades.
He breathed his last at his residence in Hyderabad due to age-related health complications, as per a Pinkvilla report.
Apart from being a writer, he also worked as a director, painter, and producer.
Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his condolences. "Deeply saddened by the demise of Siva Shakthi Datta garu. He had an immense passion for arts and literature. My heartfelt condolences to Keeravani garu and the entire family," he wrote.
Siva Shakthi Datta was the father of Oscar-winning music composer M.M. Keeravani and the elder brother of celebrated screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, making him the uncle of the ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli.
Megastar Chiranjeevi Konidela also expressed his grief via a social media post on X. "Shocked and saddened by the news of Siva Shakthi Datta garu’s passing. A man of immense talent and a true lover of the arts. My thoughts are with Keeravani garu and the entire family during this difficult time," he posted.
Datta penned lyrics for several films by Rajamouli and M.M. Keeravani, including 'Sye', 'Chatrapathi', 'Rajanna', the blockbuster 'Baahubali' series, 'RRR', and 'Hanu-Man'.
Makers of Chiranjeevi's Vishwambhara also wrote, "Deeply saddened by the demise of Siva Shakthi Datta Garu. His immense knowledge about literature and his contribution to Cinema are unmatched. Our heartfelt condolences to Keeravani Garu and the family. May the almighty give you strength. Team #Vishwambhara"
His funeral is expected to take place in Hyderabad, where family members, industry colleagues, and admirers are likely to gather and pay their final respects.
