Krrish, Brahmastra, Baahubali: Indian films inspired by 'Lord Of The Rings'

Set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien's book series, and the 'LOTR' and 'The Hobbit' films, the upcoming series 'Rings of Power' chronicles the forging of the original rings during the Second Age. It will also witness the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron in Middle Earth.

'The Hobbit' trilogy came into being a decade after 'The Lord of the Rings' film franchise. The films that served as the prequel to the hit franchise were based on JRR Tolkien's book. Here's a look at many other films and series that owe their origin to the LOTR franchise.

Hrithik Roshan surprised fans and the media when he revealed, "If there was no 'The Lord of the Rings', there would be no Krrish." The actor was speaking at 'The Rings of Power' event where he said that the idea behind making Krrish a franchise was spawned while watching the film trilogy.

While 'Brahmastra' may have its roots deep in Indian history and mythology, director Ayan Mukerji admitted that the inspiration for the film came from Hollywood franchises like 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Harry Potter'.

When SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' hit screens, it was easy to draw spitting similarities between characters in the Telugu film and the Hollywood epic 'LOTR'. Many even went as far as declaring the film as the Indian equivalent of the Oscar-winning franchise.

The 'Lord of the Rings' story may not have inspired Shah Rukh Khan's 'ZERO', but the tech behind it surely did. The actor went all out to apply the tech to his film and cut himself down to size much like Mr Frodo.

The Indian television series 'The Adventures of Hatim' chronicled the journey of a young prince who goes up against Zargham and his forces of evil to save the world. Watch the trailer and you'll see all the clear character references to 'LOTR'.

More than a decade ago, Amitabh Bachchan was set to take off on an epic fantasy journey with the film titled 'Taalismaan'. The film was supposed to be India's answer to 'The Lord of the Rings', but was sadly shelved after the released a one-and-a-half-minute teaser.

After the success of his animated 3D feature, 'Toonpur Ka Superhero', director Kireet Khurana announced his ambitious epic fantasy called 'Prithvi' that promised to match the scale of Peter Jackson's Academy Award-winning trilogy. However, the project didn't take off.
