'Yatra': 5 reasons to watch Mammootty's film

This is the season for biopics across many languages in the country and Telugu is no exception to that. After NTR Kathanayakudu, Tollywood is waiting with bated breath to catch the second biopic release of the year, Yatra based on key incidents of late politician YS Rajasekhar Reddy's life. There are a lot of aspects going in favour of the film that stars Mammootty in the lead role.

Mammootty's return to Telugu cinemaActor Mammootty's swashbuckling performance in K Vishwanath's Swathi Kiranam is still fresh in the minds of the viewers and Telugu audience continue regard it as one of the best performances by an actor for a long long time. Besides, he had also acted in a multi starrer with Suman titled Suryaputhrulu in early 90s. Now that, he's returning to Telugu cinema to play Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the first biopic of his career, we're sure he's here to make the second innings in Tollywood count.
The singular focus on episodes
Most of the biopics take the painstaking route of drafting an entire life of a changemaker on the screen. However, Yatra stands out among the pack for its singular focus on the pada yatra preceding YSR's election victory and the emotional, poignant moments he shares with the people. Choosing the most impactful segment from a legendary politician's life and making a film on it, is indeed an impressive decision from the producers and director of Yatra.
Impressive casting
From casting dancer Ashrita Vemuganti as Vijayamma to the choice of Suhasini Maniratnam as Sabita Indra Reddy besides Jagapati Babu as Y S Raja Reddy and Rao Ramesh as K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao, the makers have definitely got their decisions spot on. Choosing actors who don't merely emulate or imitate the real life characters, the director has only focused on bringing on their personality in the film and it definitely shows in the promos and the trailers of Yatra.
Good buzz surrounding its music
Despite roping in the lesser-known composer K for a prestigious project like Yatra, the newcomer has delivered the goods with the four-track album. With moving lyrics by Padmashri awardee Sirivennela Seetharamasastry, songs like Rajanna Ninnapagalara, Pallello Kala Undi, Samara Sankham have created enough buzz for the movie. Given this is a narrative that's largely driven by the background score over songs, this is indeed an achievement!
Mahi V Raghav, the director
Two-film old director Mahi V Raghav helming a film like Yatra, a biopic of a heavyweight politician is nothing short of a challenge. Given the filmmaker proved his worth as a storyteller with Taapsee's Anando Brahma, there is hope at the end of the tunnel. The promos have showed us that this is indeed a film that rides high on emotions and it'll be interesting to note a young director's approach to YSR's life.
