Nenu Sailaja
‘Nenu Sailaja’
The year 2016 began with a bang for Tollywood with its first hit romcom ‘Nenu Sailaja’. Both the lead actors Ram Pothineni and Keerthy Suresh were simply amazing in the movie. ‘Nenu Sailaja’ is all about how Ram, a playboy falls for Sailaja, played by Keerthy, who keeps rejecting his advances in spite of obvious attraction. What plagues Sailaja and whether Ram wins her over makes up for the rest of the tale. Other than the movie, the audience also fell head over heels for newcomer Keerthy making ‘Nenu Sailaja’ a big hit.
Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha
This one was a hilarious romantic comedy and it starred none other than Nani himself. ‘KVPG’ is a story about Krishna and his lover Mahalakshmi, who are childhood sweethearts. Krishna lands in trouble when he gets the responsibility to save three children from unknown kidnappers. The children happen to belong to Mahalakshmi’s family itself, effectively making sure that he wins them over. Nani was perfect in this one, hilarious when needed and really intimidating during the fights. However, it must be noted that ‘KVPG’ worked more for comedy than its romance content.
A Aa
‘A Aa’ actually stands for ‘Anusuya Ramalingam Vs Anand Vihari’, the name of the two leads. ‘A Aa’ is about how these two actually fall for each other while trying to mend the rift that exists between their families. This simple sounding story became a super hit thanks to a brilliant performance from Samantha, who was well supported by Nithiin. Also, director Trivikram’s outstanding dialogue writing played a key role in eliciting laughter from the audience and perfectly balancing with the angst and drama.
Pellichoopulu
‘Pellichoopulu’ has become a new age cult classic of sorts. This film starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Verma, is a refreshing take on traditions surrounding arrange marriages. The two leads meet each other formally with their families and end up locked in the same room together. While trapped, the two share their past with each other and truly bond only to realise that the groom has apparently gone to the wrong house and he was not meant to meet this girl, but someone else. More in tune with people of this generation, this romcom is a must watch.
Jyo Achyutananda
‘Jyo Achyutananda’ has an old but gold plot of two brothers fighting to win the affections of the same girl, Jyotsna. It, of course, does not end well for the two and Jyotsna, played by Regina Cassandra, goes to the US and the three parts in not so friendly terms. All this is of course in the past and the two brothers are now married. However, it all goes for a toss when Jyo comes back into their lives and their old feelings are rekindled. The best part about this movie is that the love story carries on well after the two are married, something which we don’t witness in most Tollywood movies.
