6 most ground-breaking young directors of Tollywood

The days of turning to K Raghavendra Rao, VV Vinayak, Puri Jagannadh, Sreenu Vaitla, Krishna Vamsi and Dasaradh are long gone. Luckily, there is a whole new crop of names to keep up with in this era. They have made viewers stick to the seats while watching the movies. Here's a list of 6 most ground-breaking young directors of Tollywood.
2/7

Hanu Raghavapudi

Considered by critics and movie buffs alike to be one of the most innovative filmmakers of Tollywood, Hanu Raghavapudi has established himself as a talented director through his nonlinear and labyrinthine approach to storytelling. Although he is often criticized for overemphasizing on plot, the rooting of his films in deeply conceptual and sensitive topics is what translated into super hits, such as ‘Andala Rakshasi’, ‘Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha’ and ‘Lie’. With so much applause throughout his career, Hanu has also set a new bar of excellence in the romantic genre of films.
3/7

Anil Ravipudi

From Ravi Babu to Prakash Kovelmudi, one director that does not receive the talk or attention he deserves is Anil Ravipudi. Known for his true commercial entertainers, Anil’s preference for using a handheld camera for most of his shots, coupled with his playfully commercial style of storytelling, has translated into realistically chilling commercial works such as ‘Pataas’, ‘Supreme’ and ‘Raja The Great’. All of which received huge attention in varying capacities.
4/7

Krish Jagarlamudi

A highly publicised figure, Krish Jagarlamudi continues to remain an icon for upcoming directors, actors and anyone who seeks to find work in Tollywood. A pioneer of the elements that continue to persist in suspense, historic, drama, and thrillers we see today, the very mention of Krish Jagarlamudi’s name is often perceived synonymous with films like ‘Gamyam’, ‘Vedam’, ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum’, ‘Kanche’ and ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’.
5/7

Maruthi Dasari

Maruthi Dasari is considered to be one of the most influential directors in Tollywood. Throughout a career that began in 2004, Maruthi has directed eight movies, producing more than eight movies that have garnered critical acclaim, and box office attention. Among his best-known films include ‘Ee Rojullo’, ‘Bus Stop’, ‘Prema Katha Chitram’, ‘Kotha Janta’, ‘Bhale Bhale Magadivoy’, ‘Babu Bangaram’, and ‘Mahanubhavudu’.
6/7

Vamshi Paidipally

A staunch perfectionist, nobody shows greater dedication to the world of cinema than Vamshi Paidipally. Known for his works ‘Munna’, ‘Brindavanam’, ‘Yevadu’ and ‘Oopiri’, which featured iconic performances from Prabhas, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Nagarjuna and Karthi, Vamshi is perhaps most revered for his efforts in these films. He last directed ‘Oopiri’ that crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. And the audiences and critics cannot stop talking about it.
7/7

Sudheer Varma

Although known for his writing prowess, Sudheer Varma, is considered to be one of the greatest directors today. Known for his layered, nonlinear approach to storytelling, his unique style of making, his deep focus shots, many of these elements manifested in his films such as ‘Swamy Ra Ra’, ‘Dohchay’, ‘Keshava’ and ‘Kirrak Party’. He has teamed up with the actor Sharwanand for a romantic entertainer.
