Seven shocking Tollywood celebrity breakups

We step into relationships and then escape from them, but when you’re a resident of the Bengali film industry; you can’t just escape the harsh scrutiny and gossip of the media and the results most of the times are not so pretty. It’s quite appalling to see the breakup of our favourite couples whose chemistry and romance used to once melt hearts. Here are some of the most unexpected celebrity breakups in Bengali industry.
2/8

Raj Chakraborty - Mimi Chakraborty

They never made it official but Raj and Mimi's relationship remained an open secret in the industry. The noted director and charming actress were going smooth and just when everybody was waiting to hear 'I do', the breakup news came as a shocker. Despite keeping their relationship under wraps, the pair didn't hesitate to declare ‘I quit’ publicly. Raj alleged it on Mimi's affair with her Turkish friend but Mimi denied everything, insisting it was just a misunderstanding.

Jeet - Swastika Mukherjee

After a controversial separation with her husband, Swastika Mukherjee’s first film was opposite superstar Jeet and the new Jodi became a hit instantly. They were the talk of the town within a few days. Termed as the hottest couple of Tollywood then, they would often be seen together partying wild and attending late night shows. However, why they broke up still remains a mystery but many believe the superb chemistry between Jeet and Koel turned out to be the main cause of the split.
4/8

Dev - Subhashree Ganguly

The young heartthrobs got closely acquainted with each other on the sets of 'Challenge' and romance was in the air instantly. Dev and Subhashree used to rule out any kind of link up as they called each other 'good friends'. But when the couple decided to part ways, everything was quite clear. Dev had apparently revealed that Subhashree was very close to him, the closest person in his life and that he hadn’t expected this kind of a climax in his love story. The actor has now moved on with his current girlfriend Rukmini Maitra. On the other hand, Subhashree and Raj Chakraborty are now a happily married couple.

Swastika Mukherjee - Parambrata Chatterjee

They were the dream couple for their fans. It all started on the sets of 'Break Fail' and Parambrata-Swastika’s sweet love story kept the tabloids quite busy. Some even referred to them as the most desirable pair of the tinsel town. But, destiny had planned something else. The smooth relationship stumbled upon a rough patch when Swastika's estranged husband decided to file a case against Parambrata. The cute Jodi parted their ways as Parambrata left for Bristol and got involved in a relationship with Ike Schouten.

Raj Chakraborty - Paayel Sarkar

Before Raj and Mimi Chakraborty became the talk of the town, the renowned director was dating Paayel Sarkar, the leading lady of Raj's many films. Their relationship remained a secret until Paayel couldn't stop praising her director for his contribution towards her success. But it didn’t last long. The duo eventually broke up and Paayel, after the split up reportedly stated that Raj and she were never meant for each other and their outlook towards life is different. She apparently added that memories fade with time and he doesn't matter to her anymore. She concluded by stating that Raj was a closed chapter for her.

Swastika Mukherjee - Srijit Mukherjee

Srijit Mukherjee has been dragged into many link ups over the years. But the news of his relationship with Swastika Mukherjee was a big surprise for Tolly-para. Although both were tight-lipped about this, the director was reportedly quite serious about the relationship and rumours suggest he once dropped in Shantiniketan to have a date with his lady love while Swastika was shooting for 'Basanta Utsav'. However, they failed to hold strong when it mattered and finally broke up and it left everybody wondering what actually happened.

Paoli Dam - Vikram Chatterjee

In the beginning, Vikram was badly bashed for being an expressionless actor. The identity of Paoli's boyfriend turned out to be a great challenge for him. Many believe it actually ruined their relationship. Anyway, after the breakup, Vikram tried to clear her stand by reportedly claiming that Paoli is a very special person in his life. He even called Paoli his mentor who taught him a lot to improve acting.
