Rashmika to play a shoplifter in Telugu remake of Jigarthanda

Rashmika Mandanna has had a dream start to her career in Tollywood with hits like Chalo, Geetha Govindam and Devadas that have made her a sought after name in the business today. The Bengaluru girl, who is shooting for Vijay Deverakonda’s Dear Comrade presently, has given her nod to star in another biggie — the Telugu remake of 2016 Kollywood blockbuster Jigarthanda. Varun Tej is playing the lead role in the film directed by Harish Shankar. Rashmika will reprise of a gangster’s sister, who happens to be a habitual shoplifter, played by Lakshmi Menon in the original.

“After a series of successful films, the actress was conscious about choosing the right project. She was excited to play this brief but interesting role that even has a few shades of grey,” reveals a source close to the actress. The prospect of working with the likes of Varun Tej and Harish Shankar was what clinched it for the actress. “Rashmika is very happy to be associated with a team comprising Varun Tej and Harish Shankar, who have delivered several blockbusters. She will be joining the sets next month,” adds the source.
