Music Review: Ranarangam
Sudheer Varma’sRanarangam featuring Sharwanand, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Kajal Aggarwal has an OST of five numbers composed by Prashant Pillai and penned (mostly) by Krishna Chaitanya.
Opening the album is the wedding number Seetha Kalyanam with Sreehari K’s vocals and
Kummeyra with Karthik Rodriguez’s vocals is a playful number that has lyrics by Krishna Chaitanya filled with typical Telugu proverbs. However, the number mostly talks of giving a friend the strength to tell his lover about his affections for her. The number is strictly average with only Prashant’s music standing out in parts.
Nikhita Gandhi’s party number Pilla Picture Perfect is a super-fun number that is easy to hum and dance along to. While Krishna Chaitanya’s lyrics are cutesy, Nikhita’s vocals have the right amount of pep. It is, yet again, Prashant’s music that makes this number work, especially with the hook line. Nikhita’s auto-tuned vocals also work for the most part.
Kannu Kotti is a super adorable, retro-style number with Karthik Rodriguez’s vocals. The number is a simple one with beautiful lyrics by Krishna Chaitanya that are just the right amount of playful without seeming overboard. Karthik’s vocals and Prashant’s music too work well in tandem to elevate the number that is fun to listen to.
Ending the album on a simple note is Evaro Evaro with Preeti Pillai’s vocals. While Preeti does a good job, the music of this number is average, while the lyrics do nothing to elevate the number.
All in all, the album of
Balaji
’s lyrics with Bhadra Rajin, Anna Baby, Radhika Narayanan’s additional vocals. This sounds similar to a solo version composed by Prashant but is much more upbeat. The subtlety is what works for this number, apart from Prashant’s contemporary music.Kummeyra with Karthik Rodriguez’s vocals is a playful number that has lyrics by Krishna Chaitanya filled with typical Telugu proverbs. However, the number mostly talks of giving a friend the strength to tell his lover about his affections for her. The number is strictly average with only Prashant’s music standing out in parts.

All in all, the album of
Ranarangam
is good for a one-time listen. While all the numbers in the album have something unique to offer, it is only Seetha Kalyanam, Pilla Picture Perfect and Kannu Kotti that manage to work.Top Comment
