Composed by Justin Prabhakaran, the original number sees lyrics by Rehman and vocals by Sathyaprakash and

Chinmayi

. For the reprise version of the number that released on Sunday, Vijay Yesudas and Bombay Jayashri lent their vocals. Sharing the number on his social media, composed Justin Prabhakaran wrote, “O Kalala Kathala' Reprise Version ft. the exquisite singers @Bombay_Jayashri & @IAMVIJAYYESUDAS penned by #rahmanhope you will like. #1YearForDearComrade http://youtu.be/_pFiWy2m4gI @TheDeverakonda @iamRashmika @bharatkamma @MythriOfficial @bigbencinemas #okalalakathala.” (sic)

Video of the number which plays out at a crucial juncture in the film sees various clips from the film play out. It also ends with the dialogue that Vijay Deverakonda states in the film, urging Rashmika Mandanna’s character to fight for her rights. Bombay Jayashri and Vijay Yesudas do a beautiful job of making the number that was already well-known their own. Rashmika Mandanna too shared a video the filmmakers released, to mark the occasion and wrote, “Cheers to the film we all adore so much!” (sic)

Dear Comrade released a year ago and tells the story of a student union leader called Bobby who’s hot-headed yet learns to use his temper when needed, and that of a cricketer called Lilly who’s sexually abused by someone in authority, almost putting her career in trouble. How Bobby and Lilly manage to be each other’s ‘comrades’ despite the odds forms the crux of the story. The film released last year not just in Telugu but also Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, with Karan Johar bagging the Hindi rights of the film.
