Vicky Kaushal wows crowd speaking fluent Bengali in Kolkata

Upon arriving in Kolkata on Friday to promote his upcoming film Chhaava, actor Vicky Kaushal greeted the excited crowd with a warm Kemon Acho Kolkata and Ami Tomake Bhalobashi. Not only did he impress everyone with his fluent Bengali, but he also won hearts by speaking an entire sentence in the language. Dressed in a stylish grey fusion kurta-pyjama, the Raazi actor looked effortlessly dapper as he made his way to attend a press conference at a city uniplex.

Vicky, who made his debut with Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan, is celebrating ten years in the industry this year. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “It’s surreal! The directors I’ve worked with, the films, the stories — looking back, I never would have believed that I’d get the opportunity to portray so many iconic characters and be part of such amazing films.” Pointing toward the audience, the Manmarziyaan actor added, “God has been really kind, but the love I’ve received from all of you is overwhelming. I just hope to keep doing good work.”

From Sardar Udham and Sam Bahadur to now portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in his upcoming film, Vicky has taken on many historical characters. Talking about how every script demands a different set of preparations and how portraying a real-life figure has impacted him, he said, “Sometimes a script demands immense physical preparation, sometimes emotional, sometimes you have to learn a language, and sometimes you need to understand the mindset of the character you are playing.” Reflecting on his prep for Masaan, he shared how he had no knowledge of Benaras and spent several days there to immerse himself in the environment. He added, “It depends on what the character is and how the director envisions it. Every character brings new learning.”
