A recent Instagram video by an Amazon employee has sparked that conversation after he shared a detailed breakdown of his expenses while living in Bengaluru.

Prem Raj, a software development engineer at Amazon, revealed that his monthly spending comes to around ₹35,000. The video quickly gained attention online, with many users appreciating its straightforward look at everyday expenses.

How much does he spend every month?

“Here’s how much I spend as a software engineer working 9-to-5 at Amazon in Bengaluru,” Prem Raj said in the video.

According to him, his total monthly expenditure is around ₹35,000, covering rent, food, transport, fitness, and household expenses.

Rent accounts for the biggest expense

Prem Raj lives in a 2BHK apartment in Marathalli and spends ₹15,000 every month on rent.

After viewers questioned the amount, he explained that he shares the apartment with a flatmate. Since the total rent is ₹30,000, his share comes to ₹15,000.

Food and daily expenses

He spends ₹3,000 a month on a cook and around ₹2,000 on petrol for his motorcycle.

Groceries and household essentials cost him another ₹3,000 every month. Since his cook is mostly unavailable during weekends, he spends approximately ₹2,000 on ordering food.

Fitness is also part of the budget

“To remain fit, I go to the gym regularly. Gym subscription and protein supplements cost me around ₹2,000 per month,” he said.

He added that he spends another ₹3,000 on chicken to meet his protein goals.

Bills, subscriptions, and shopping

Internet bills, electricity charges, and subscriptions together cost around ₹2,000 every month.

He also pays ₹1,000 to rent appliances such as a refrigerator and washing machine.

For occasional shopping, he keeps aside another ₹2,000.
